Rabbits and Hot Weather

As we humans bake in the mid-day UK sun, spare a thought for our pets with their furry coats. Our rabbits and other furries, are going to be particularly hot, sticky and uncomfortable in this heatwave and I have heard of rabbits passin away with the heat. So, here are a few tips to help keep your bunny cool and SAFE:-
  • Try to keep bunny indoors in the coolest room of the house
  • If indoors is not an option, make sure bunny is in the shade, preferably in a cooler North facing corner of the garden
  • Place a fan at the door to the hutch/cage to help with ventilation
  • Try filling a lemonade bottle with water, freeze it overnight, then cover the frozen bottle with a towel or pillowcase and lay it down for your bunny to snuggle up to and keep cool. Better still, have 2 or 3 bottle frozen at all times so that you can rotate them as they start to defrost
  • Ensure that bunny has fresh, cold water at all times, and check the level to ensure that he is actually drinking, some bunnies just become so lazy in the heat that they cannot be bothered to drink. If you find this, try to place a bowl of water close by also (a porcelain one is best so that it dosn;t get tipped)
  • Provide plenty of watery vegetables (not under 12 weeks of age!) to assist in fluid intake, Good ones for helping to keep their water intake up are:-
    • Carrots
    • Apple
    • celery
    • cucumber
    • tomatoes
    • orange
    • radish
    • melon
  • Offer your rabbit some ice cubes to play with
  • Always ensure that he has plenty of shade when playing in the garden
  • If he loves to lie in the sun, do not allow this at peak heat times (11am-2pm) and if he is in the sun, rub in a high SPF sun cream to the ends of his ears so that he does not become burnt.
  • Do not allow him to lie in the sun for long lengths of time
All in all, common sense is needed. Plenty of water and protection from direct sun and heat with plenty of ventilation and your bunny should enjoy the summer as much as us Humans..

For now, enjoy the weather while it lasts, Winter will be upon us before we know it

Changes to Rabbits-Online Store

Its been a while since I updated my Blog, quite a lot has happened with Rabbits-Online in the past few months, so here is a summary of the main points:-

First of all, in terms of Sedgeystud:
Due to personal illness, I very reluctantly, and very sadly, have had to part with my beloved rabbits and cease breeding. This was not a decision I took lightly, and is one that I did with a very heavy heart. It was for the benefit and well being of the rabbits that I decided to re-home them, due to not having the time to spend with them due to my on-going health problems. But I have found a remarkeable lady in Wales, who has taken on 80% of my stock, and who intends at a later date to continue breeding with the rabbits, once they are settled from their move. This does mean, of course, that I will no longer have any rabbits available for sale as pets. I have updated my website to reflect this.

I would, at this point, like to thank everybody who has, over the past few years, come to me for advice, information and assistance with their rabbit queries, whether it be to help solve a health issue with their own pet rabbit, or to help choose a new rabbit for their family etc. I would also like to wish all my rabbits that have left me for new owners via Sedgeystud and Rabbits-Online, a long, happy life with their new owners, and if you ever experience any problems, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me and I will try to help the best I can.

I have made a lot of friends along the way with my rabbits. New owners, show people, other budding rabbit lovers up and down the country, and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all the best and I am sure we will stay in touch for a long time to come.

I have updated my website to inlcude some basic hints and tips for new, prospective new owners wanting to purchase a rabbit for their family. I hope you find this useful. This information can be found here.

Most of all, I shall, and do, miss my rabbits greatly, perhaps one day in the future, I can re-establish my stock and start from where I left off.......

In terms of the Rabbits-Online Store:-

There have also been some big changes to the Rabbits-Online store since first publishing my Blog. Due, again, to my health, I have not been as active with my Store lately as I should have been, and I have to admit, it was slipping in terms of updates, stock levels, response to customer enquiries etc.. Although I have to say that shipping has not suffered and all purchases have been handled quickly and swiftly, as always. Most of you that may have used the store in the past (for which I thank you), will know that I was always a stickler for customer care and satisfaction. So, again, a new direction had to be established, and this is what the current position is:-

The Rabbits-Online Store has merged with its' Sister site at Pet-Comfort. Pet-Comfort is an online, UK based, mail order site which purely sells Housing for pets. It specialises in Parrot Cages, flights and aviaries, Rabbits Cages and hutches, bunny exercise runs, and also cages for other small animals including Chinchillas.

All the Cages that were previously sold by Rabbits-Online, are now incorporated into the Pet-Comfort Website. The Pet-Comfort site will also eventually take over the Rabbit and small animal Accessories previously sold by Rabbits-Online, but in the meantime, all items in stock will be sold as sale items via Ebay. Watch this space for further details. Items will include corner litter trays, water bottles, food bowls, nail clippers, grooming brushes, disinfectants, shampoos, grooming powders, bunny deoderants, toys and treats, pretty much a mixed bag really. And all the stock will be sold as silly prices to make way for new stock.

To summarise, at this moment in time, the Pet-Comfort site is fully operational, and housing items for your rabbit, small animal and Parrot/Birds can be purchased for quick delivery direct to your home within the UK. Rabbits-Online will continue to run, providing useful help and advice to bunny owners and potential new rabbit owners. And all accessory items will be listed for sale on Ebay (I will publish a post on here with further details).

Thank you for reading this post, thank you for everybodys' support to date, and please do feel free to visit Pet-Comfort and Rabbits-Online soon....
